Author's note

Barrelhouse All Caps font by S. John Ross is a free decorative retro display typeface that looks like it’s been pulled straight off a creaking saloon sign. Every letter is tall, blocky, and packed with dense, scratchy woodgrain texture, like ink dragged across rough paper. The all-caps construction keeps things loud and legible even with all that grit, so your words feel stamped, shouted, and slightly unruly in the best way.

Using Barrelhouse All Caps, you can bring dusty-barroom character to whiskey labels, gig posters, Western-themed branding, BBQ menus, vintage-style packaging, and book covers. This free font shines when it’s big and bold, with plenty of breathing room around the text so the distressed details can really show. Pair it with a clean sans from the Barrelhouse family or a plain geometric sans in smaller sizes for body copy to keep the typography readable and nicely balanced.
