Author's note

Beethoven font by J.F.Y. Daniel Gauthier of GautFonts is a free comic display typeface with a bold, razor-straight personality. Its ultra-tall, compressed letters and sharp vertical cuts give words a dramatic, poster-like presence, almost like titles carved into a dark theater marquee. The tight rhythm, blocky shapes, and clean, chiseled gaps make text feel loud, punchy, and a little bit mischievous.

Using Beethoven, this free font shines on comic covers, retro game titles, gig posters, zines, YouTube thumbnails, and bold branding that needs to shout from the page. It works beautifully in all caps at large sizes, especially when paired with a simple, round sans serif for body copy to soften its edge. Keep spacing generous and backgrounds simple to let Beethoven’s tall, sliced forms do the heavy lifting.
