Author's note

Boister Black font by PJL is a free gothic medieval typeface that hits that sweet spot between ominous and playful. Its thick, inky strokes and swirling, parchment-like curves feel ripped from an illuminated manuscript, but with a slightly exaggerated bounce that keeps it from getting too solemn. Letters lock together in a dark, textured rhythm, giving logos and titles a bold, storybook weight that’s hard to ignore.

Using Boister Black, you can push fantasy book covers, game titles, band logos, festival posters, pub branding, tarot or occult packaging, and renaissance fair merch into full-on legend mode. This free font shines in large sizes where its sculpted curves and dense forms can really show off. For a simple pairing, match Boister Black with a clean, modern sans in small text to keep everything readable while the gothic lettering takes center stage.
