Author's note

HippoCritic font by Susan Townsend is a free decorative display typeface with big inky shapes and hypnotic spirals that feel like they’ve been hacked out of black paper. The letters are chunky and off-kilter, with rough, eroded edges that wobble just enough to feel wild rather than messy, giving every word a loud, handmade shout.

Using HippoCritic, your titles instantly grab attention on Halloween posters, zines, gig flyers, kids’ book covers, craft packaging, and quirky party invitations. This free font works best large, where the curls and jagged contours can breathe; pair it with a clean, understated sans serif for body copy so the wildness stays where it belongs-in the headline.
