Author's note

Horst Capitals font by David Rakowski is a free gothic initials typeface that turns every capital letter into an ornate emblem. Heavy, inky black shapes are wrapped in looping flourishes and sharp, chiseled curves, creating the feel of antique bookplates and illuminated manuscripts. There’s a satisfying contrast between the solid, shield-like cores of each letter and their airy, ribbon-like swashes, so a single glyph can carry an entire design.

Using Horst Capitals, a single word can headline fantasy book covers, darkwave album art, vintage liquor labels, boutique logos, certificates, or medieval-themed event posters. This free font works best at large sizes where the delicate curls and bold silhouettes can breathe. Pair it with a simple sans serif for supporting text and let Horst Capitals handle the drama in titles, initials, and monograms.
