Author's note

Janis font by Matt Petty is a free graffiti font that looks like it was dragged straight off a marker-sketched sticker. Loopy, irregular strokes wobble with a loose, streetwise energy, while the star-topped forms add a quirky, almost doodled sparkle. It feels spontaneous and a bit mischievous, like a name scrawled in the margins of a notebook or on the back of a gig flyer.

Using Janis, you get an instant hand-drawn tag vibe without picking up a pen. This free font shines on zines, band posters, character logos, DIY craft packaging, YouTube thumbnails, kids’ event flyers, and playful social graphics. Keep it big and bold so the chunky curves stay legible, and pair Janis with a clean geometric sans in small text to keep the wildness under control.
