Author's note

Jeff font by Jeff-Nichols is a free gothic initials typeface that feels pulled from the first page of an illuminated manuscript. Each letter sits in a chunky black square, wrapped in curling vines and leafy ornament that create a dense, inky texture. The contrast between the solid dark blocks and the white filigree makes every initial feel like a carved woodblock or a stained-glass panel, full of drama and old-world craft.

Using Jeff, a single oversized letter can anchor a whole layout, so it shines on book covers, fantasy game titles, chapter openers, certificates, vintage posters, and story-driven logos. This free font works beautifully when paired with a clean serif or sans for body text—set Jeff large for initials or wordmarks, and let simpler text do the reading.
