Author's note
Snailmate font by Tension Type is a free eroded display font with rough, chipped edges and uneven cutouts that break up each letter. The forms feel blunt and solid at a glance, but the damaged texture gives the whole face a scratched, weathered character.
Snailmate works well for album covers, poster titles, horror packaging, game art, and edgy apparel because the distressed surface carries that worn, rough-edged tone straight into the layout. This free font also fits zines, event flyers, and bold logo marks when a design needs lettering that looks battered rather than polished.

Snailmate began with a foam set of letters I found in a thrift store. The set was missing a couple of characters and contained only uppercase letters with no punctuation. I painted the letters, scanned them, and created the remaining characters based on what I had.

Description
Snailmate started with a foam set of letters I found in a thrift store. It was missing a couple of characters and had only uppercase and no punctuation. I used paint to make the letters and scanned them. I created the rest based on what I had. Hopefully it’s just what you needed.
