Author's note
Tallys, designed by Jos Buivenga, is a free calligraphic serif font with tall, finely drawn letterforms. Its pronounced stroke contrast and gently flared serifs recall lettering shaped by a broad-nibbed pen. The narrow curves keep it poised and airy.
Book covers are a particularly good setting for its literary elegance, alongside magazine mastheads and cultural event posters. In restaurant branding and wine labels, its subtle irregularity offers a warmer, more personal alternative to the rigid polish of a conventional high-contrast serif and suits products with an artisanal or historical focus.
