This is a woodcut print inspired font peculiar to Literatura de Cordel* from northeastern Brazil. By researching in Cordel booklets it's possible to observe that characters have well defined edges, even though they don't form regular geometric forms. In this way, Xilosa keeps the irregular character form with a sharper readability, without the grainy effect resultant from woodcutting print, giving the character a modern aspect without losing the regional characteristics from Cordel.
* Popular literary genre written in rhymes. Originated by spoken tales that were then printed in booklets.
